2 Cups whole wheat flour
1 Cup non-GMO corn meal
2 tsp baking powder
¾ Cup peanut butter
OR ½ Cup peanut butter AND ½ Cup pureed pumpkin or sweet potato
¾ cup non-GMO shredded cheese (optional)
Non-GMO Meat stock—add enough to achieve a thick dough that can be rolled out.
Pre-heat oven to 250°F.
Combine flour, cornmeal, and baking powder in a large bowl. Add shredded cheese if using, and mix well.
Add peanut butter (and pumpkin puree if using). Mix until well combined.
Add just enough stock to make dough pliable.
Turn dough onto a floured surface, and roll to ½ inch thick. Cut dough using cookie cutter of your choice— for smaller treats, a shot glass works well here!
Place treats on baking sheet—they don’t expand much, so it’s fine to arrange them pretty closely together. Bake until crunchy all the way through. For older dogs or ones with sensitive teeth/gums, remove from oven while center is still chewy.
Dry treats can be stored on the counter in a large Ziploc bag, or in an airtight container for several weeks— Bear’s have never lasted long enough to test their shelf life. If you left the treats chewy in the middle, I’d suggest storing them in the fridge.
