Ingredients
- 1 cup butter
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2.5 cups flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp peppermint extract (more if desired)
- 1/2 tsp – 1 tbsp beet juice (depending on desired color)
- 2-3 candy canes
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees
- Mix all dry ingredients
- Add vanilla and peppermint
- Add in egg and butter, beat together with a mixer
- Divide dough in half and put in separate bowls
- Add beet juice (or any natural red food dye) to one bowl of dough and mix
- Roll a spoonful of each color dough into a log shape and twist together to shape like a candy cane
- Crush candy canes in food processor or with a rolling pin
- Dip each cookie into candy cane bits
- Bake for 10 minutes and let cool
